Benefits of Bergamot Oil

Bergamot is a citrus fruit that grows exclusively in the coastal region of Southern Italy. Bergamot oil is extracted from the fruit’s peels has an aromatic scent that is quite pleasant!

Bergamot essential oil is rich in polyphenols, which are super strong antioxidants that our bodies love (and need more of). Other food sources like green tea, berries, red wine, etc. also serve up a mega-dose of the antioxidant effects from polyphenols, which help to protect the body against cardiovascular disease, diabetes, bone loss, cancer, and other health disorders. Bergamot specifically also lowers blood sugar levels, promotes good cholesterol, and reduces fatty deposits in the liver.

This oil is simultaneously calming and uplifting – making it ideal for dissolving sad or anxious feelings. Like other citrus oils, it also possesses cleansing properties and a soothing aroma.

Here are my favorite ways to use it:

  • Add to fractionated coconut oil and apply to my face, neck, arms and legs each morning. It’s smell alone is stimulating and starts my day so positively.
  • Apply to feet before bedtime for a calming and relaxing experience. I like to combine with Lavender oil for a double-win before bed, and also add to my wrists.
  • Diffuse at any time during the day to release tense feelings and ease stress. A fun one to use during meditation.
  • You can also take one drop internally under the tongue, to support a healthy nervous system. I haven’t yet tried this one myself but I’m sure the benefits are amazing.
