new brew coffee

Coffee is pretty much a staple for most of us. Its benefits have been debated, like most dietary items in our modern lifestyles. But I think the real details of its benefits lies within the quality of the bean. And no, more is not better. Let’s dig in....

High-quality coffee is a rich source of antioxidants, boosting the immune system, improving skin vitality and enhancing brain function like memory. Dark roasted brews are your best bet.

Coffee bean sources matter. Buy organic! Avoid over-processed brews with ‘natural flavors’ and unnecessary extra ingredients. Sadly yes, your beloved Dunkin Donuts Hazelnut K-cup brew is not your best choice. Shop for brews that are sourced directly from a farm by a direct-grade roaster or a wholesale importer.  Beware coffee beans that are coated in oils, inconsistent in shape or vary in visual color appearance (light vs. dark in the same blend).

  • Easiest tip —> Choose a freshly roasted Arabica coffee - preferably one with a packaged-date stamped on it. Avoid coffees with only a ‘sell by’ date.
  • Fun tip —> Pick a proper brewing system. This doesn’t mean you have to rule out your Keurig (I haven’t!) but grinders, drip brew, French presses and other systems do provide a far superior coffee experience should you chose. Have fun exploring.

Luckily there are options that allow you to maximize your health, enjoy a convenience of a single-cup brew and save the planet.

Here are a few of my favorite single-cup blends. There are many more of course, but I hope this helps get you thinking about your cup of joe a little different.

  • Half-Calf Organic Coffee K Cups - half the caffeine, but all the benefits. This is my daily go-to. https://amzn.to/3rR8vzp
  • Organic sustainable K Cups, medium roast - save the planet and your health. They taste divine and come in many varieties, including decaf. https://amzn.to/2X3ziKQ

Oh and don’t forget to skip the dairy-creamers. Try a sprinkle of cinnamon and a splash of plant-based milk (almond or hemp) to round out the perfect start to your day.
