Health Hack #23: Legs up on the Wall to Boost Immunity
This one simple, passive stretch brings all sorts of health benefits. Better yet, you can do this anywhere in your house, with on equipment needed, even during daily household chaos or while you’re watching TV.
Legs up on the Wall Benefits
- Improves circulation – elevating the legs promotes drainage from excess fluid build-up and assists in circulation. It encourages blood back to the heart, which gives it the boost it needs to keep things moving, including those valuable white and red blood cells.
- Relaxation – the semi-supine aspect of this move, along with controlled breathing allows the body to slow. This lowers your heart rate, which signals the body to release anxiety, stress and even insomnia. Plus the mental health benefits of just sitting still, especially during these uncertain is invaluable.
- Soothes swollen legs and feet – sitting too long as you work from home? Standing up too much during all of that meal prep? Inverting the legs and feet can help reduce swelling and pain in the lower extremities.
- Stretches the hamstrings and lower back – say it with me, ahhh! This one is so helpful to elongate and stretch the back muscles. By reducing the curve of the lumbar spine, the lower back and hips get a little release. Note – the closer your hips are to the wall, the deeper the stretch.
